This trip start and end in Chiang Mai. This trip will allow a more extensive exploration of the Viang Pa Pao area. You will visit Black Lahu, Red Lahu, Akha, Karen and Lisu villages on this great adventure.

Highlight: 

A back-to-basic trekking through a non-touristic area with focus on tribal culture of  Akha, Red Lahu, Black Lahu, Karen and Lisu. 

Itinerary: 
Day 1

Description: 

At 0830 your trekking guide will meet you at the hotel in Chiang Mai. We will drive to Wiang Pa Pao, which will take about two hours. On the way we will stop at the Mae Kachan hot springs. Continue to the Akha Village Bala. The Akha are the most primitive and charismatic tribe in Thailand. Your guide will tell you about their customs and traditions. We have have lunch at a traditional Akha house.

After lunch start walk across the Lahu village Bala village and hike uphill for about one hour. We continue along a mountainridge with spectacular views until we descend through the forest. Continue through ricefields until we reach the house of a blacksmith where we will take a rest. We will continue through fields and bamboo forest until we arrive at the Karen village Mae Boon Noi.

Description: 

After breakfast we start our day with a testing walk uphill. Then we will walk along a mountain range through mixed deciduous forest for about three hours.

We will have lunch at a Lahu house. After lunch we will  walk about one hour to a small red Lahu settlement. This is the village of Jabo, who will be our host for tonight. We will rest here for a while. We leave our packs at Jabo's house and walk to the nearby Mae Toe Waterfall where we can have a refreshing swim. Return to Jabo's house where you can help with preparing the dinner if you wish. Overnight at Jabo's house. After dinner sit down and chat with your host.

Description: 

Wake up with the roosters. Enjoy breakfast and start trekking along a small river through the valley and bamboo forest for three hours more. After lunch in the forest we will continue through rice fields and vegetable gardens to the Red Lahu Village Pa Kuoi where we will spend the night at the house of Jalee. After arrival you can rest or explore the village. If you want you can help prepare dinner. 

Overnight at Jalee's house.

Day 4

Description: 

After breakfast we walk about two hours through the valley and rice fields to the Karen village Huai Mi Dae. Then continue for about half an hour to the Lisu village Pa Tung. Here our car will be waiting. We will have lunch in a restaurant on the way back to Chiang Mai.

Things to Bring: 
  • Short sleeve shirts for the day time (bring a spare one, just in case)
  • Long sleeves for the evening (especially in the winter Nov - Feb it can be a bit cold)
  • Shoes with good grip (especially in the raining season from May - Sep
  • A cap
  • Suncream
  • A small towel
  • Flip flops
  • Sun glasses
  • Your personal toiletries
  • Personal medication
  • Fully charged batteries or even an extra battery for your camera.
  • 1000-1500 Thai Baht per person in small notes (not bigger than 100 Thai Baht). This is for souvenirs, drinks and tips.
