A private 2 day trek for your family is the perfect way to see a bit more of the Thai countryside in safety and relative comfort with a private guide and transportation. In the coming days you will learn about the flora and fauna of Northern Thailand and about the mountain dwellers who call these foothills of the Himalayas their home. You will learn about the traditions and life of the various tribes inhabiting this area, the Karen and Palong. As this is a private tour, we will adjust the pace to your personal wishes and needs. Our guides have lots experience working with children and will make this an educational experience for them.  They know this area like the back of their hands and will tell you about plants and animals. They will reveal the secrets of Northern Thai cooking and will make sure this trip will be a fun trip.

An elephant ride is not included in this program.

If you wish to include an elephant ride we will do this either during the trek or at the Chiang Dao Elephant camp on the morning of day 1. In the latter case departure time will be an hour earlier on that day.

Day 1: Are you ready for Elephants?

Description: 

Your trekking guide will pick you up at an appointed time (7:30 – 8:00) at your hotel. You will drive to the north into the mountains near Chiang Dao. First stop will be a local market. Your guide will do some shopping for the coming days and he will take you along and explain all about the different ingredients he will be using for meals during the trek. We continue to the Chiang Dao Elephant Camp. This is the most scenic elephant camp in Thailand. Witness the show in which the elephants haul logs and see how they enjoy bathing in the river. Continue to a Karen village where we will have lunch. After lunch we will start trekking. The trail has a few steep hills but most of the trek is relatively easy. All together we walk about 2 hours with many stops along the way.  Your guide will explain about certain trees and plants in the forest. There will be time for taking pictures.

After arrival in the village the children will participate in activities in the village. These will vary from picking fruit, collecting vegetables for dinner, feeding the pigs and taking part in sports with children from the village.The parents can relax, explore the village or learn some Thai cooking by helping the guide prepare the dinner.He will explain you about the herbs and ingredients he uses. After dinner your guide will take you to one of the village houses where you will meet some of the villagers. The Palong are originally from Myanmar and fled to Thailand in 1984.Overnight will be in one of the village houses.

   

Day 2: Palong village – rafting – Chiang Mai

Description: 

After the sounds of nature and the locals woke you up, your guide will prepare breakfast. After breakfast your guide will show you around the village. He will explain about the village shrine and about the ‘huja rawl’, the ‘village heart’. Then we will visit the local school. The children will donate pens and paper to the school.

After this we will say goodbye to the villagers and start trekking for about about 1.5 hours to the Karen village Thakilek. Along the way we will stop at Lahu village Ban Huay Bong where we will visit the very interesting spirit temple and a black smith. After this we will continue trekking to the Karen village.

After a short rest we'll travel by truck to a riverside camp we will drive to the Ping River where a bamboo raft will be waiting for you. Your helmsmen will maneuver the raft through the gentle rapids. After the raft trip it is time for lunch. Drive back to Chiang Mai. Our last stop on the way back will be at one of Chiang Mai’s famous orchid nurseries.  We will drop you at your hotel at around 5 pm.

  • Long sleeves for the evening (especially in the winter Nov - Feb it can be a bit cold)
  • Shoes with good grip (especially in the raining season from May - Sep)
